Portals are a tool that will make exploration much more comfortable and safe. I will guide you step by step through the process of building portals, so you can avoid problems.
Why you should build portals in valhiem
Portals allow you to teleport between two selected locations in Valheim. They are of great importance when your base begins to move away from the areas you are exploring or from the place where raw materials are being mined. It is also a safe way to recover items when you die far from home, just run from the portal take the items and run back to safety.
The only thing we need to remember is that raw materials like (Iron, Copper, Tin, Silver, Black Metal) cannot be transported through the basic portal. For this stone will allow us to transport whatever we want.
How to Build Portals Valheim
We have 2 portals to produce. The first one we can unlock early in the game the second one at the end of the game.
Portal Made of Wood – Resources Needed
- 10 Grey Dwarf Eyes – you can get them by eliminating Grey Dwarves in the Dark Forest. These are frequent drops, so get them quickly.
- 20 Precious Wood – for this you will need a bronze axe. It is obtained from birch or oak, which you will find in the forests.
- 2 Surtling Cores – you will most often find these valuable cores in underground chambers in the Dark Forest, or Burial Chambers. Sometimes you need to get through a lot of enemies, so prepare good equipment and take care of your energy by eating before the expedition.
You need two Portals to move, so double the ingredients! And as if that wasn’t enough, each Portal must be within range of the Workbench, so make sure you have an extra workbench at each Portal.
Portal Made of Stone – Resources Needed
- 10 Greydwarf eye – you can get them by eliminating Grey Dwarves in the Dark Forest. These are frequent drops, so get them quickly.
- 30 Grausten – We can obtain this material from ruins as well as from rocks in the Ashlands biome.
- 2 Molten core –They are found in smelly caves in the Ashlands that can be defended by Morgen with one star so to get the core you either have to run fast or shed blood to get it.
The advantage of this portal is the ability to transport any raw material. The downside is the cost of production especially of cores and instead of a workshop you need to build a Stonecutter to build a portal.
To manufacture you will need:
- Wood x10
- Iron x2
- Stone x4
how to manage multiple portals in valhiem ?
If you are going to use multiple portals, it is worth thinking about the naming system. The first two portals will automatically connect, but if you build more, each set needs a unique tag. You can use a system like “Home”, “Forest”, “Marshes” and so on, or a more detailed one with numbering, such as “Forest_1”, “Marshes_2”. If the tag is set correctly, the portals will connect by themselves, but if there is an error, you will see the message “[UNCONNECTED]”.
CONCLUSION
Portals in Valheim make exploration easier and safer by allowing you to teleport between chosen locations on the map, especially when your base is far from resource-rich areas or dangerous zones. To build a basic portal, you’ll need Grey Dwarf Eyes, Fine Wood, and Surtling Cores, while advanced stone portals enable transporting raw materials like iron and silver at a higher cost. When using multiple portals, set unique tags to each pair to avoid connection issues and navigate easily across your network.
