Dying Light: The Beast was unveiled by Techland during Gamescom 2024, introducing an exciting new chapter in the Dying Light franchise. Originally conceived as a DLC for Dying Light 2: Stay Human, this game evolved into a standalone experience, driven by its expanding narrative and gameplay scope. The game is set in a new, rural region called Castor Woods, a once idyllic tourist destination now overrun by zombies and other horrors.
Players once again take on the role of Kyle Crane, the protagonist from the original Dying Light. After enduring years of brutal experiments, Crane has acquired beast-like abilities, which are central to the game’s mechanics and narrative. These abilities not only enhance combat but also bring new dimensions to the parkour and survival elements that fans of the series have come to love.
Dying Light: The Beast promises a densely packed open-world experience, featuring diverse environments ranging from natural landmarks to industrial complexes. Players will be able to use parkour to navigate these areas or jump into abandoned vehicles to escape danger, maintaining the series’ iconic day-night cycle that alters gameplay dynamics.
The game supports co-op gameplay with up to four players, ensuring that the thrill of survival can be shared. While the release date has yet to be announced, it has been confirmed that the game will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Additionally, owners of the Ultimate Edition of Dying Light 2 will receive Dying Light: The Beast at no extra cost.
What I expect from the game is to live up to the really low expectations, after the clearly unsuccessful Dying Light 2. Players who were so pleased with part one and the Dying Light Following add-on were disappointed by the strangeness of the open world and the lack of a concrete storyline, which was the series’ strongest selling point. The new title will be an experiment, a combination of hmm…. Dying Light with Alan Wake. Good Night Good Luck!
