After Lethal Company’s explosive success, it seemed unlikely any indie horror title would manage to match its impact. Yet here comes R.E.P.O., a fresh co-op survival horror developed by Swedish studio Semiwork, that has skyrocketed to the top of Steam charts just days after launch.
Despite being in Early Access, the game already boasts tens of thousands of active players and an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating. But what makes R.E.P.O. stand out in a flooded market of similar games?

What Is R.E.P.O.?
R.E.P.O. stands for Retrieve, Extract, & Profit Operation — and that’s exactly what you do. Up to six players team up to enter eerie mansions and abandoned facilities in search of valuable loot. Your task? Collect items, load them onto a cart, and push it to the extraction point without breaking anything… or getting killed by the monstrosities lurking around.
The game combines survival horror, co-op teamwork, and hilarious physics-based chaos. Think pushing a heavy cart while being chased by a baby-faced ghoul, or flying across the room after colliding with your teammate. The current Early Access version includes:
- 3 unique maps
- 19 enemy types
- 29 pieces of equipment
- 8 character upgrades

Platforms & Availability
Currently available only on PC via Steam, R.E.P.O. launched into Early Access on February 26, 2025, and hit over 54,000 concurrent players within 24 hours. It’s also compatible with Linux (via Proton) and Steam Deck, although controller support is still in development.
Due to early hacking issues, online play is limited to friends-only multiplayer, but matchmaking and public lobbies are being worked on.
